We have had exceptionally dry weather for the past week & a half - very unusual for us, especially after so much rain. It seems like a long time since we had been able to get outside without having to wear rain gear so we have been really enjoying the opportunity to get outside again after lunch.
Because it has been so dry we could make use of the whole playground, spreading out all over the place rather than having to worry about keeping some of the resources under the verandah area. So the big dolls house has been out & a new den & the big community playthings blocks. These really need a lot of space to enable the children to make full use of them & this isn't possible if they have to be kept under the roof. They just get too slippy if wet to be allowed out & they will also warp & basically these blocks are too expensive to ruin in the rain.
The children have loved being able to get on the grass/mud area without wellies & rain gear & have made good use of the willow dens & tree stumps, making lots of 'dinners' with the bark chippings & tree branches.
Sadly this lovely dry spell is to come to an end later this week & no doubt the mud will be back & we'll learn to embrace it again & to get all togged out in the waterproofs to enjoy the playground.

As you say a bonus that it's been dry and you could expand your area of play. You have great facilities and provide activities for the children to explore and be creative. Thanks for linking to Country Kids.
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona, well that was last week, this week it's back to rain, rain & more rain. Kierna
DeleteOh no! We are still in the dry but I think it is forecast to catch up with us too this week *digs out wellies and coats*
DeleteAnd it's dry again!!! But set to get very cold. I think it was the novelty of 13 dry days in a row that got to me!!
DeleteI used to work in a nursery. It was lovely to get outside!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's always so much better for everyone if you can get outside.
DeleteYour nursery looks like it's got loads of great stuff for the kids to play with. My son would love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Emma & thanks for taking the time to comment, I have built up a lots 'stuff' over teh past 7 years in this building & love seeing how the kids use it all.
DeleteWe have similar style blocks for the infants and they're kept in the infants hall for them to build with, they end up taking up half the space of the hall so I can understand why you need the space outside for them. That's a lovely playhouse too.

Love to hear that 'bigger kids' get to play with them too. Yes, the house was another of the big purchases we made when we got our new building.
DeleteThis looked like so much fun! i have to say I am slightly jealous at some of this equipment, it cool :-)
