Muddy muddy fun

Learning for Life

We had a wonderful day at Peatlands in the woodland classroom and had the chance to fully road test out new rain gear from Dikriksons. This was the classes 3rd visit to Peatlands & it was lovely to see the children becoming more familiar & confident within the setting. It was even more special because another nursery teacher had travelled over an hour and an half to join us, so she could get some ideas of how to offer her own classes a similar opportunity.

Thankfully the Board of Governors of our school values our outdoor play approach and were willing to fund a whole new set of outdoor clothing for the whole class. The children love the bright colours & had fun choosing which colour trousers they wanted with which coloured coat.
The weather forecast for our day out was heavy rain & gale force winds, but the forest gods must have been smiling down on us as it was a mild, sunny day & the rain only arrived as we were actually heading back inside after our morning out.
This morning spent in the forest is always a relaxing one, with many children who don't take an active part in outdoor play back at school fully embracing the wonderful natural learning space. This years class are particularily drawn to climbing trees, gathering sticks & jumping in mud!
Days out like this are only possible thanks to financial support from our parents support group, who pay for the bus costs, and parents and supporters who volunteer with us. Our trips to the forest are definitely the highlight of any month and the children enjoy counting down the sleeps between each monthly trip.
Our new rain gear was christened well on this trip & we had many muddy, tired but happy children when we got back to school. What I love best is that when I say to parents 'He/she had such fun jumping in the mud today, their muddy clothes are in this bag' they all reply with a laugh 'Good for you, that's what being young is all about'.
