The 2011 Edublog Awards

The nominations for 2011 are now open for the Edublogs - now this time last year I didn't even know what a blog was, so it's because of some of these great bloggers that I began my journey down this path. The support & inspiration that I have received since January has been overwhelming & the ideas I have gleaned from fellow pre-school bloggers has had an extremely positive impact on my teaching this year.
There are so many great bloggers out there it is so hard to single any one or two out but here are my nominations:

Best Teacher Blog:
Jennifer over at Let the Children Play. This was one of the first blogs I stumbled on & Jenny helped me find so many other great bloggers & re-inspire me as a teacher.

Best Individual Blog:
Jane from Mama Pea Pod. This wonderful blog follows the exploits of Jane & her family - the 2 peas - as she tries to give them brilliant & stimulating experiences that will create fabulous memories.

Best Group Blog: Play at Home Mom.
This briliant blog chronicles the adventures of several parents as they strive to allow their children to explore the world & experience as many sensory experiences as possible. If I only thank them for one thing this year it is my introduction to water beads!

Best Class Blog: Gina over at Play-based classroom.
This truely inspirational teacher makes sure her class gets to make as much mess as possible in the pursuit of play based learning. I am particularily indebted to Gina for her flubber recipe.

Best Individual Blog: For me there is no contest it has to Tom Hobson a.k.a Teacher Tom.
I have found myself agreeing to so many of his posts & find myself re-thinking my approach & attitude to the little people that I teach. He is truely an pre-school guru & pretty 'right-on' for an American!

Best new blog: Happy Hooligans
This one burst onto the scene early this year & has made me reasess my attitude to day care providers  - and wish for 2 things :that I had a child to send to her daycare & that I lived in Canada! The Hooligans have wonderful adventures everyday & get to explore outside & make creative things too.

Best ed tech/resource sharing blog: Irresistible play based learning
Sherry & Donna were some of the first bloggers I came upon & they are so generous at sharing every idea they come across - this is a quality I find most early years people possess - but these 2 have taken it to new levels with all the different documents they have compiled for others to access.

I could do at least 5 other posts naming great bloggers & I haven't even been able to mention most of my favourites. I do know that the world got so much smaller this year & I have made so many new friends in the wonderful blogoshere.

  6. Oh wow. What an honour - thank you so much for the nomination Kierna. It means a lot coming from someone I admire and who shares a similar approach to early childhood education and outdoor play. Touched and thrilled!
