Painting with Rolling pins

Thanks to Grace T.'s mum we were able to finally try our hands at rolling pin painting - we only had 3 and she gave us the 4th one that we needed. I had seen the idea on this fabulous website - Casa Maria's Creative Learning Zone in the summer and once again I couldn't wait to try it.
This is really all about the process and not the end product - as another of my favourite bloggers Teacher Tom talks about, the whole painting ends up 'pre-school brown' - no matter what colours you start with they all get mixed together in one big sludgy mess!
But oh how much fun this whole thing was, and one we will definitely be doing again. The children loved the idea of 'squashing' the paint into the page and were fascinated by the colour changes.

Once more the rolling pins were off the table and onto the floor - this class just loves to get so involved in all their art projects. Anyone thinking of trying this - my advice, go for it!

  1. I haven't seen this done before and I love it! Will definitely be giving it a go. And you are right, it is ALL about the process. I bet there was some great interaction between the children!

  5. What a great idea, and of course it all turns brownish grey!
I plan on doing this soon with mine. I might have to ask for some rolling pin donations! I get such great ideas here, Kierna.
I love your pictures - always with happy smiles.

  6. Brenda - this was a great one, I have got so many brilliant ideas since I started blogging - it's amazing to share good ideas with others. We had fun today pounding pumpkins with golf tees & mallets!! I think the whole internet forum has refreshed my teaching :)
